Text editing question

Here's a question which sounds completely off topic, but actually
isn't--does anyone know how to do a global find and swap exchanging a
return character for a space character followed by a return character?
The question arises from my attempts to expeditiosly edit the new
Scala 2.2 seq-from-midi files into files Maple can read. I can get
abiword to see the return characters, but can't figure out how to
replace them.

On what platform? You'll need an escape sequence for either your
text editor or scripting language.

That's the 2nd time you've mentioned version 2.2. Latest version I
know of is 2.1a.

W98 or Linux 8.0.

"\" often works, but I need a text editor for which it works, and
what I need to stick it in front of.

See Manuel's announcement on MMM of the unstable beta-decaying 2.2.

I think that's 2.1a.

...

Oh, he says it will eventually be released as 2.2.

I found an old crippleware called fdrepl95 which does this. No doubt
there are better options, but at least it works.
