What are the opinions as to the (non)-acceptability of sampled instrument patches
used in alternative tunings? If the instrument sampled (particularly if it's a keyboard
instrument with numerous strings) was tuned in 12tet, will it completely ruin the
simulated effect of a microtuned instrument when the pitch is eletronically
manipulated? Is there an efficient algorithmic solution to the problem? or is such a
solution intractible for real-time use? -Justin

No, so long as you don't make the retuning too great. An important
aspect is to have the samples themselves correctly tuned to 12-et,
however.

Yes, but why would you want your samples tuned in 12tet if your composition is
entirely in, say, 7-limit JI? -Justin

It doesn't matter if you want them that way or not--you're going to
get them that way, and then only if you are lucky and the samples are
not white-keys-only or half-octaves or something else of that sort.

Well, I guess this is a good argument for doing your own sampling. -Justin
