Richard Maxfield, in his _Night Musik_ (196?), used difference tones
between a variable oscillator and the erase head oscillator of his tape
recorder.

Ron Kuivila, in the early 1980's, did extensive work with ultrasound,
modulating the ultrasound with an ordinary household fan.
