update of equal-temperament "zoom" graphics

perhaps it's simply the video configuration
of my computer system, but i've always had
difficulty viewing the mouse-over "zoom" graphics
i created in collaboration with paul erlich on
my Tuning Dictionary "equal-temperament" entry.

the problem for me is that the yellow and green
lines are so light as to be nearly illegible.
i've always found it much easier to see the
relevant information by using a negative version
of the graphics.

for anyone else who's had the same problem,
you'll be happy to know that i've finally added
the negative versions of the graphics to the webpage:

Even at the best resolution, it's too big for my screen.

hmmm ... my resolution is set at 1280 x 1024, and the
graphic does fill the entire screen, so i guess that
it would be too big for any smaller setting.

if i get time, i'll try to create smaller versions,
perhaps putting them here and putting the larger ones
on a separate page. however, they are pretty detailed
and the print is small even at the size i'm using.

1024 x 768 for me. I'll be getting a new computer
this summer, so I'll probably go for something bigger this time.

cool! another improvement to legibility would be to put a prominent
marker, perhaps a colored dot or the initials "JI", at the center of
the graph where the solid axes meet. i find it hard to distinguish
between the solid lines and the dotted lines, and thus to rapidly
read off the deviations of the 5-limit consonances in any ET. of
course, this is entirely my fault, for making the graphs this way! a
central marker would greatly alleviate this difficulty.

The links to the gifs aren't working for me.

yes, now that my negative versions of the graphics
have made the lines more legible, i too have the
problem you describe.

is there any real need for those dotted lines?
when i have time, i could simply eliminate them.
that would make the essential information in the
graphs much clearer.

i do like the idea of the central marker, and
that's something that won't take too long. i hope
to do it within a day or two, probably using a
"JI" label.

they're not links in that you're not supposed to click on them --
just mouse-over . . .

yes, they allow one to read off the errors in the 5-limit consonances
for any ET, both magnitude and direction. information that should
certainly be presented one way or another.
