Natraj seamlessly melds the classical music of India, traditional
music from West Africa, and contemporary jazz to create its own
unique and infectious style. The Agbekor Society, founded in 1979 by
Tufts University Music Department faculty member, David Locke,
performs high-energy polyrhythmic traditional West African music. At
Ryles, the Agbekor Society will complement the improvisational style
of Natraj with its folkloric performances. The evening will culminate
in a Natraj-Agbekor collaboration featuring highly charged
contemporary adaptations of traditional Ghanaian music. The
performance will showcase David Locke's West African drumming
artistry. This will be unforgettable evening combining contemporary
and traditional approaches to West African music.

In its performances at PANAFEST, Ghana's major international
festival, Natraj "successfully fused African grooves with romantic
Indian ragas... exotic... captivating..." — Graphic Showbiz, Accra,
Ghana.

Natraj features Phil Scarff - soprano saxophone, guest David
Fiuczynski - guitar, Michael Rivard - bass, Jerry Leake - tabla and
multipercussion, and Bertram Lehmann - drums.
