My experience has been that they're honest in that regard, that they don't accept "quarter tones" as being sufficiently explanatory as to what they might do. And, my Indian singing teacher said, if you can play--or sing!--me the rag in those numbers, I will tell you if I think it makes sense.

The numbers are not a convenience, they exist as explanations of things, in their particulars, NOT as generalizations. Anyone who has tried to listen to 7/4, 16/9, and 9/5 with any degree of acurracy will wonder why use it, given a sensitivity?
