Folks:

I'm following this subharmonic thread with interest. May I contribute a
couple of related studies about ALFs (Anomalous Low Frequencies) on
strings:

Guettler, Kunt. 'Wave analysis of a string bowed to anomalous low
frequencies." Catgut Acoustical Society Journal. Vol. 2, No. 6, November,
1994.4.

Hanson, Roger J., Scheider and Halgedahl. "Anomalous low-pitched tones from
a bowed violin string." Catgut Acoustical Society Journal. Vol. 2, No. 6,
November, 1994.1.

Kimura, Mari. "Subharmonics: A Revolutionary Technique for the Violin."
International Symposium on Simulation, Visualization and Auralization for
Acoustic Research and Education (ASVA) 1997. Available at
http://papers.nyu.edu/~mk4/

I also have run across some interesting compound harmonics (harmonics of
harmonics) call 'Fawcetts" or 'Fawcets'- depending on whose score you look
at. Anybody interested in this can contact me personally-

Cheers-

Allen Strange
