From what I can tell from web searches, the Guzheng is the forerunner of the Koto, and in its 13-string form is equivalent to a standard Koto in playing methods and tunings. There's a table of known Koto tunings at http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/~NP5Y-HRUC/kt-play1.html , but the basic idea is Pentatonic. The only example of Koto playing I can think of right now is Brian Yamakoshi's work on the album "World Diary" by Tony Levin, but that's some super-Koto with 25 strings...
