TUNED IN OPEN D AND A HALF STEP DOWN

I've been playing guitar for a couple of years. I heard a song from
Alice in Chains It's over now, and would like to learn how to play it
but it asks for TUNED IN OPEN D AND A HALF STEP DOWN, D-A-D-F#-A-D.
Can anyone tell me how to tune my axe to this, and if it is possible
to tune it with an electronic tuner. Thanks

There is an off-chance someone can answer this (I'm a percussionist, so no-go with me), but you've landed in a tuning forum that is, um, into *really weirdly tuned music* in all manner of speaking. Lots of math, lots of ethnic and historic tunings, virtually no guitar re-tuning (unless you want to put 22 frets per octave on the neck).

Not a forum for 'alternate tunings' for pre-existing guitars, etc.

Maybe one of the guitarists on the list will know a better place to post your question...

Best of luck,
Jon

Sounds and looks like
the tuning is for a Db
Major triad kind of tuning.
If you can, tune your guitar
to a D Major tuning first.
Then drop all of your strings
flat.

Your standard guitar should
already have the 5th and 4th
strings tuned to A and D.
Lower your 6th string a
whole step. Lower your 3rd
string a half step. Lower
your 2nd string a whole step.
Then lower your 1st string a
whole step.
That will give you-

6 string- D
5 string- A
4 string- D
3 string- F#
2 string- A
1 string- D

THEN..lower ALL strings
a half step!

Your guitar is now tuned:

6 string- Db
5 string- Ab
4 string- Db
3 string- F
2 string- Ab
1 string- Db

Kind regards.
Joel
