Wow!

I like it...Paul Erlich and Kraig Grady working together and making items
more clear for everyone involved. Johnny and I poking and prodding and
finding clarity. We are evolving daily.

But!

It is always nice to know something about the innate rationales with each
person's thinking, and Johnny included the following:

>I've always tried to take the mystery out of music, to explain it even when
>it seems stubbornly ineffable.

And that is something that I will *never*, *ever* do. In a world where the
genome project is almost complete, paparazzi run rampant, and Believable
Hair Replacement Technology is just around the corner, I _welcome_ mystery.
I court mystery. I want mystery, what little is left, to bloom. If anyone
were to finally explain the last ineffable element of music to me, it would
happen on the last day I would have anything to do with music.

>I suspect each of us has a different take on math and music, possibly due in
>large part to the nature of the interaction of the two in their respective
>artistic lives.

Absolutely.

Cheers,
Jon

All this around a solar Eclipse and a Grand Square

I'll join you in this celebration of the mysteries that requires the courage to
cast aside the vain and false securities perpetuated by the Propaganda Wing of
Society-Media, under the guise of Science (Pop) and Reason. Science has just
about reached a place where it is running into its own psychological
projections. The Big Bang ( a good way to get chistians to pay for your funding)
is everywhere while Bells Theorem of Inequality is never on PBS. In truth we are
surrounded by the mysterious. What is melody. What is Consciousness. How can
plants take dirt and produce any color of the rainbow! What is Gravity! How do
different people come up with the same ideas/inventions/discoveries at the same
time!

Hey everyone,

Bandwidth hogging I am, but I just wanted to send the briefest of msgs to
clarify my last point from earlier today: that it is interesting to see the
variations on music-making, music-studying and music-listening, and not (in
this case) that I'm saying any one particular way is wrong or right.
Tunings can be (and many times must be) very precise, duplicable in
different settings and situations, but what moves one in music is not, nor
should it be, a universal and/or singular motivation -- including whatever
might move me.

And speaking of moving, the Partch instrumentarium and Newband are now
moved to Montclair State University in NJ, with prospects of not being
uprooted for a while looking good.

That's all for today...

Cheers,
Jon
