I used to recommend Finale to all my students, despite its arcane, terribly
inconsistent user interface. You can add your own drawings or any font
characters to scores, which is how I notated the koron.

However, after shelling out $90 for the latest Finale upgrade, I discovered
that it is now copy protected by CD ROM (unless you have only a floppy
drive and pay $35 more). I have a Mac Duo which is sometimes connected to a
CD-ROM when on my desktop. However, when I take it on the road, I do not
have a CD. In other words, I'm hosed.

I have been using Finale since version 1.0 (what is that? over 13 years?),
but I felt this latest requirement to be an insult to loyal customers. I
also found that the fact that they did not mention the requirements of the
copy protection in the upgrade literature to have been nothing less than
deceitful.

I can no longer recommend this company's products to my students, so I have
started to recommend Sibelius. The first of my students to have bought it
loves it (www.sibelius.com).
