Sorry to be off-topic, but I'm listening now to Dvorak's third string quartet, which in the version I have is 70 minutes long. Does anyone know a longer one, in particular by a major composer?

La Monte Young's Chronos Kristalla was 90 min. when I heard it at BAM
eight or nince years ago.

Mode released Morton Feldman's String Quartet #2 on DVD last year: 6 hours,
7 min.

Hi Gene,

This is not a string quartet, but should make an interesting piece, not that any of us will ever hear the whole thing...

Actually Gene,

Now that I think of it, the Kronos Quartet did a recording of Terry Riley's "Salome Dances for Peace". The whole work fits on two CD's, the first being about 71 minutes long, encompassing the first two sections of the whole work. The second CD is about 48 minutes, and it is the last three sections. At the same time, I don't know how much "leaway" the performers are given in the performance, but the liner notes say this work is "three times longer than any of Beethoven's string quartets."

The CD came out in 1989.

Terry Riley's _Salome_ string quartet is also
