Hi Folks

this question has no doubt been asked and answered, but I'd be grateful
if anyone can point me to a list of recommended recordings of early
music in authentic tunings.

Thanks

My favorite historically tuned recording recommendations off the cuff are:

Ton Koopman for the Bach 6 Brandenburg Concerti (WIII)
Igor Kipnis for Bach Chromatic Fantasy and other harpsichord and clavichord
(WIII)
Buxtehude and Bach on organ played by Armin Shoof (Lubeck organ in WIII)

I have recordings of Machaut in what sounds like Pythagorean tuning.
I have a recording of trecento music in what sounds like Pythagorean tuning

The above are all great performances. Johnny Reinhard

Hello Alison, while many poetical works in Sanskrit and other languages have been set to tune, often in the notes of some popular raga-s, there is no established relation between a raga and the content of a poem.

So, if you can suggest some Sanskrit poems/verses which meet with your requirements, I can set them to tune and send the music on a cassette. Please mention any preference for a particular mood, or for raga-s.

Thanks,
Haresh.

Yes Haresh, that much I know. To clarify - I'm after the words to poems that have been set to the tones of a morning raga.

Hello Alison, I am sorry to be still at a loss: As you know, ANY poem can be set to the notes of any raga (morning raga-s, if you so choose). I do not know about CDs so set to music, and available. I will do it afresh. So, depending upon the use to which we want to put the new recording, we select the poem that best represents the required mood. Spiritual? Karmayoga? Jnanayoga? Bhaktiyoga? Any creative words of aspiration, hope and joy? Or, just "mood"? What duration?

After you have selected the mood and the poem, now I can proceed to set it to the notes of a morning raga (any preference?). Tell me if only Tanpura in the background is sufficient. You want it played on an instrument, or sung? Please give me all the r4elevant details, so that it can serve the purpose for which it is going to be recorded.

Thanks,
Haresh.

I just need some appropriate poetry that might has a connection with a morning raga.. Bhaktiyoga, ie devotional would be best. And optimistic.

Thank you for the offer of music Haresh, but I want to use the poem in a choral setting. I'm not composing raga though I'd like to suggest elements through the poetry and the tones. Perhaps you could also suggest your preferred morning raga tones.

Many Thanks
