Joe: I somehow missed the reference to Helmholtz on the Groven page, but
after I posted in I looked at Groven's book and he does discuss
Helmholtz and a later theorist, Puhlmann, who applied 36 pitches of the
system to an organ in 1926 in Stuttgart. IIRC, Bosanquet tried 53 tones
of it, but decided that it worth the immense difficulty of tuning so
many slightly flat fifths. Eitz apparently built a harmonium tuned to
the 1/8 skhisma tuning also.

I find these tuning interesting because they are the positive analogs of
1/4 and 1/3 comma meantone.
