just one more meantone...

The schismic meantone I mentioned earlier came from Helmholtz. I didn't know
where to go to find lists of known meantones. And I've just now discovered the
joys of 31-tone, and now I'm wondering if Harrison's comma, 59049/57344 (ten
perfect fifths vs. a 7/4 seventh and five octaves), has ever been used.A 1/10
Harrison's comma meantone, by the way, has a fifth of about 696.88259 cents. The
averaged fifth of 1/4-comma and 1/10-Harrison's is circa 696.73051.~Danny~

>>http://www.ixpres.com/interval/dict/meantone.htmI've got the whole file
dict.zip downloaded, but I saw a short list on that page. Someone else (the name
I forget) pointed me to http://x31eq.com/
[http://x31eq.com/], which has descriptions of schismic scales I
asked about earlier.

Another note: I'm re-submitting a page on natural logarithmic equal temperaments
(equally-divided scales based on e/1 instead of 2/1), including approximations
of 12-tet, 19-tet, BP etc. Just a crazy gimmick of mine. It'll be in the Files
section.

hmmm ... i'm pretty sure that the latest updates i've done
to my meantone pages have not yet been included in the zipped
version. you might want to take a look at the link to the
regular page, and follow the other links there.

yes, Graham's pages are excellent, and are also linked
from my Dictionary pages. as you pointed out in your
previous post, however, schismic scales are technically
not meantones: they're "positive" systems, whereas meantones
are "negative".

Used how? It's a feature of standard septimal meantone, and is a comma of the 12-et (as well as 19,31,43,50, and 74) so obviously in some sense it's been used a lot. If you mean for {2,3,7}-based music,
maybe someone should ask Harrison.
