I have just uploaded this,
/tuning/files/sillybass.mp3
emboldened by the recent live acoustic uploads. This is a free pitch
bass solo from a gig at the Boulderado in 1988. I have been thinking
about the free pitch approach over the last couple of days, and it
seems to me one can make interesting music without a fixed pitch set.
I bet Hendrix fans can sing the talking guitar outro to Rainy Day
Dreamaway, even though they would be hard pressed to write it out
without some thought.

Of course, Hendrix wasn't using free pitch, but the fast glissandi
and drop offs fool the ear into hearing the talking guitar pitches as
a continuum.

John,

This seriously rocks!

I think this may be the first piece of yours I have
ever heard. I didn't even realize you wrote, I don't
think.

Do you have a CD out with more of this sort of thing?

Thanks Jeff. I have two pieces on the tuning@... CD, and
I am rehearsing with Neil Haverstick for my first full CD. The tunes
on the Mills CD can be heard on the Tuning Punks or under Johnny
Lobster here: http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/11/johnny_lobster.html

You can come over and play anytime, Jacky.

Mark Johnson. He will most likely play drums on the Hungarian Dance #5
on my CD (he played with me and Neil on the #5 at
http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/11/johnny_lobster.html)
