Pauline is listening...

Since someone mentioned the Pauline Oliveros celebration in SF, I thought this quote (from the following article) from her was appropo:

"In a scientific view of hearing and listening, you can measure a lot of different kinds of things -- frequency, volume, amplitudes. You can discuss overtones and harmonics and the mathematics of this, that and the other."

"But what's missing is people and their experience. Listening is based on experience -- it grows and evolves throughout one's whole life -- and there are ways to open the portals into a deeper consideration of what is heard."
