I am pleased announce that my Microtonal Bach segment will be from 10 A.M. to
2 P.M. on Christmas Day (Dec. 25, 2001) on WKCR-FM (89.9) out of New York. I
am excited to share more recent discoveries. Johnny Reinhard

Johnny,

Wow, that's a longer segment than you've had in the past, no? Good
for you. Do you know if WKCR streams their programs on the net? (I
don't think, even putting up my biggest antenna, that I can pull it
in all the way in SoCal...)

Cheers,
Jon

Boy, Jay, with help like that... :) So, OK, I did a Google search and
came up with www.wkcr.org. I'll be able to listen, with one harrowing
caveat of the kind we're becoming accustomed to seeing:

(from the www.wkcr.org website / broadcast page)

"If you receive an error: Since losing our transmitter on 9/11, we
have had an influx of listeners to our web broadcast as a result of
our diminished FM broadcast. We currently do not have the technical
resources to deal with this demand, and it has compromised the
stability of our server. Please be patient - we are doing our best to
find a solution."

I already support KPFA in Berkeley, from 600 miles away, but I'd hope
people in the metro and outlying NY area help support a station like
this...

Regards,
Jon

Jon, WKCR has never even had full Columbia University support. It has always
had to do its own fundraising for its needed support. I guess the views
expressed on the air have never been exactly to taste for the Univesity.

Oh, and they have allowed me 4 hours in the past, but I did get to choose the
hours so that I can make a visit to family home in Brooklyn for a bit of
Christmas cheer.

Boy, do I need it after recent events.

: )

Best, Johnny Reinhard

I see. KPFA in Berkeley is completely independent of any institution,
and has steadfastly held solid political, social, and musical
beliefs. They're the ones that originally gave air time to Partch, as
well as Ginsburg, Alan Lomax, and on and on. They've always
fought "the good fight" and something in my bleeding heart wants to
lend support from time to time.

Excellent, I only misremembered. I'll try and catch at least some of
it on the net. And have a good time decompressing later in the day...

Cheers,
Jon
