OT: Count Up from Bottom or Down from Top?

On the treble clef, what note is on the second line? D or G?

I've always heard people counting down from the top, but I just heard from
somebody who says that the normal practice is to count up from the bottom.

I always count up from the bottom. That's the way I was taught. At least
it's implied with the mnemonic "every good boy does fine". ~DaW~

Both Danny and Johnny gave you the answers I would have.
I'm pretty sure standard practice is to ascend from the bottom.
