It appears now we take the word of a non musician as to there being
universal forms throughout the Arabic world that Toumi did not mention.
What would we say if Toumi reviewed a chemistry book. The reviewer fails
to mention any of these supposed forms. The Maqam is unquestionably the
most universal practice throughout the Arabic world so it is unclear to
what he is speaking. Regardless the author of this review fails to
produces any specifics much less produce any credentials that he himself
is knowledgeable about the myriad of music found in this area. I imagine
Toumi must have recorded the UNESCO recordings in the 19th century. Also
forms have nothing to do with tunings. If 24 ET is the dominant tuning
then maybe we should tell Cam that all his measurements are wrong and a
waste of time.
Sad that one can accuse others as dismissing whole subcultures as if
they re an expert about such matters. I ask which of the recordings on
my Playlist has he even heard

Sad that one can dismiss all dissenting opinions as if no one else
can have a passion for true musical knowledge and an ability to be
impartial.

Where is this playlist? I'll happily purchase and listen to, say, 5
CDs, and resume the discussion from that point on.

Next, I will attempt to give you a peace offering on a different
subject, and hope you will give it at least a little
consideration . . .

Sadly, if <http://www.turath.org/SalonMenu.htm> is to be believed, that
would now require a miracle.

Have not dismiss but have asked for some substantial back up to this point of few.

this point of few.

Why don't we just say that my involvement, reading, listening,
watching, and questioning in the classical, popular, and traditional
dance music of the Arab lands has led me to my understanding of the
intonation of the maqamat -- and leave it at that.
