A teensy comment on a great eq temp...the neutral 3rd in 34 comes in
at about 353 cents, close to 27/22. Also, it gets a nice flat minor 3rd,
at 282 cents, just about 20/17. My next CD (in the works) has a couple
of heavy rock tunes in 34...works great...Hstick

As it does in 17 . . . while the neutral third in 31 is 348 cents.
Both 31 and 17 (and hence 34) are good at approximating Arabic
scales. Here's how you do it. Look up the 7-tone Arabic scale, which
will usually be given in quatertones, e.g.,

Maqam Rast 4 3 3 4 4 3 3

Now, to translate to 17-tET, simply subtract 1 from each number:

3 2 2 3 3 2 2

And to translate to 31-tET, simply add 1 to each number:

5 4 4 5 5 4 4

The basic sound of the scales remains the same (if used in an Arabic-
like style)!
