microtonal Springsteen

Also, since I've been plugging some of my favorites so much
here recently (Johnston, Johnson, Varese, Zappa, Bartok,
Mahler, Schoenberg), I might as well include Springsteen:

Anybody ever notice how microtonal *his* guitar playing is?
Check out the solo on the album version of 'Badlands':
sounds like he's bending some of those strings right off
the fretboard! A super-vibrato usually goes with it.

I'd say in his case it's *definitely* for expressive inflection,
as Paul E. pointed out in blues; in fact I'd call it exaggeration.
(totally in keeping with other aspects of Bruce's style)

(... and I mean that in a good way; really

... I *love* Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce!)
