In addition to this lovely piece combining Jewish cantillation with
Central Javanese Gamelan, Georg Haydu and Johnny Reinhard have pieces at
this site.

As part of a web music project to commemorate the events of September
11, I
contributed a piece that was recorded at STSI Surakarta this summer: Sabbath
Bride, based on a melody sung on Friday night to welcome the Sabbath.
You can
hear the music in RealAudio, or download an mp3 file at

http://kalvos.org/tragedy.html

Maybe it is a timely collaboration: Indonesian musicians, many of them Muslim,
singing a Jewish song in a composition by an American for Javanese
instruments.

It was fantastic working with these musicians, most of them from the
faculty of
the karawitan department at STSI. I was deeply honored by their
participation in
recording seven of my early compositions for gamelan. Sukamso assembled the
group and played kendhang, Joko Purwanto supervised the recording. (I'll provide
a complete list of musicians and pieces to anyone who is interested.)

terus dan terus
