Allison, the Peterson strobe tuner is ideal if you are trying to tune
a new instrument, especially if the pitch set is not common. The only
other multiple scale tuner I know of is Chromatia, available from
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/
They also have something called Tuning Fork that is supposed to be
tunable by inputting frequencies or cents, but I can't get it to
download right. To price Peterson Strobe tuners, go here:

Dear members,

Certainly excellent is the Peterson strobe tuner. There are
models that include "Bach/wohltemperirt", preprogrammed.
In case one collects other practical devices for tuning
(one's own ears need not be collected!) then you may
try to look into the website of

http://www.vogel-scheer.de

address:

firma@vogel-scheer.de

They have various models of Tuning Sets TLA that are in
Europe very common - and, by the way, do as well provide
"wohltemperirt".

Kind regards,

Herbert Anton Kellner

These look good, and with prices! I'll try to find some sort of reviews. Many thanks.

Hi,

Check Robert Scott's Tunelab 97 if you can tune close to a computer.
It's meant for piano tuners, it measures partials from which it can
generate a tuning, probably can do without, too.

Dean Reybourn, who wrote a similar program suggested setting up multiple
tuning tables, based on partial measurements (or not) for more than 12
notes per octave.

Alison,

maybe you would find useful "Organum", a tuning program I'm developing. It is written for the Macintosh platform only and is still under development (since a lot of time), but should be good for your use.
I haven't still put in on the 'net because some fundamental parts are not complete. If you like, I could send you a copy; I will be happy to hear comments and suggestions.

I'd certainly like to give it a try and give you some feedback. Email me privately if you need an
address.
