Reading Brett Barbaro <barbaro@noiselabs.com>
(Subject: Re: optimal tuning for diatonic scale) and his comments on Robert
Smith ------

Some of you may be interested to read Smith's Harrison comments
at http://www.harmonics.com/lucy/lsd/rsmith.html.
It seems that Harrison was "plagued" by negativity about his contemporary Brit.
establishment, and the Church.
Was Smith, Harrison's tuning nemesis?

Harrison claims that Smith stole his ideas.
[Smith did?: Lucy did? ;-) ]

Back to the immediate present-
Those who appreciate the nuances of Brit. social history and 18 th century
politics, may also enjoy the irony that this week, the Magdeline College Choir
at Oxford have been rehearsing a Harrison? tuned rendition of the Old 100th,
It is for a scene in the forthcoming movie of Dava Sobel's book "Longitude".
This version follows Harrison's notes that we found on the ranges for various
voices in his Lincolnshire church choir, and has used C=256 Hz, as the
reference pitch.

Last Year's productions:
Those who can play mp3's may appreciate a LucyTuned recording I have posted at
http://www.harmonics.com/lucy/lsd/hurray.mp3
"Hurray For The Future" is by James Sanger (Arc Angel).
This was produced about two years ago, yet should demonstrate how he has used
microtuning in a pop-dance-excitation mode.
His next recording project, the month of June '99, in a secluded Devon studio,
may result in some even more interesting output.

BTW Sorry about the absence of my usual cynicism in this posting;
I'll try harder in future. ;-)
