howdy, y'all,

I would like to ask,

(1) How do you like yahoo's message group service?

(2) Do you use the web to access the list, or do you get
e-mail, and why?

(3) How well does a "group" paradigm work for our
community?

(4) Have you ever used threaded message boards like
zeroforum (http://www.zeroforum.com/) or slashcode
(http://www.slashcode.org/)? Do you think such a
thing could work for us?

Until recently, usenet was the only viable alternative
to listserv, and there seemed to be a consensus that
we didn't want usenet (I agree). Now, the academic
listserv has been replaced by advertiser-supported
"groups" services like this one. Meanwhile, the needs
of our community have changed. What do you think?

Just thought I'd ask.

Do idea; never used it

I use e-mail as I can work off line at home (like now) while web
requires net connection (this is UK; no broadband, cable or ADSL, and
pay-by-the-second). Also with e-mail I can make emacs use characters
which are readable to my increasingly failing eyesight. I have not
yet found a web browser which allows for the shortsighted (but I think
there are facilities in Opera which I have not grasped yet)

Depends what you mean be a "group".

No

I am happy with ezmlm and majordomo run systems. These Yahoo and
similar systems seem to me a step backwards
