Haresh,

ok, forget my hazy mind.

Using the first line (#1), please explain what the numbers mean, and i'm guessing the letters are
note names?

What do the letters mean? Indian solfege?

I'm also guessing that either the letters or the numbers denote step size's. Yes?

Is S R G m P D N analagous to C D E F G A B C?

What if any, is the reason for a lower-case m?

I can see the rotation though (the screen is spinning). Ha ha.

Any help appreciated.

George

Hi george,
These numbers are the number of shruti-s. Thus, for example, in the
first line, the distance between R and G is 2 shruti-s. In a recent
posting, shreeswifty has given us a good idea of the step sizes.

Yes; rough, but practical equivalences are: [Taking the note C as the
Sa (S)]

Indian solfege:- Sa = S; Re = R; Ga = G; Ma = m; Pa = P; Dha = D; Ni
= N. All white keys on the keyboard. Note: m = F, M = F#

C = S; C# [= Db ]= r; D = R; D#/Eb = g; E = G; F = m; F# = M; G = P;
G#/Ab = d; A = D; A#/Bb = n; B = N.

As explained above.

I apologize for not starting at the beginning. But I am glad that
Moorchchhana did relieve your pain, though it did temporarily cause
some strange kind of spinning -- by now, I hope, that is gone, too!!

Regards,
Haresh.
