My name is John Hoadley.
I am currently studying for a B.Sc. in Musical Instrument Technology at
the
London Guildhall University.
My specialism is electric / acoustic guitar.
I have a slight problem that I hope someone can help me with, I have a
diagram of "Thompson's guitar", it is a photocopy (and a poor one at
that!)
I believe it is justly tuned. The diagram shows 58 divisions on the
fingerboard from the nut to the twelfth fret.The frets are staggered,
using
the divisions as a template I made the scale length 116 units long, and
divided half this figure into1200 (cents) this gives 20.68 cents per
unit, by
counting the unit lengths to each fret, and using the usual formulae, I
figure that the intervals are:
C D E F G A B C
0 186 372 496 702 889 1075 1200
Close to just but not quite right.
Can anyone tell me if I am on the right track?

You're kind of going about it the long way around calculating cents and
all--if it's justly tuned, you should be able to just measure the fret
positions and see if they're in small integer ratios to the string
length and to each other.
