Re: Neo-Gothic "septimal comma" symbols (for Joe Pehrson)

Hello, there, Joseph Pehrson, and thank you for a very helpful
suggestion in response to my post about the neo-Gothic comma symbols
"^" and "v."

One way to explain these symbols that might fit more or less with
72-tET and similar systems would be to identify them with the _smallest_
interval in a neo-Gothic tuning where this is less than about 30
cents, just as the 1/12-tone symbol represents the smallest interval
in 72-tET.

Most typically, this interval in a neo-Gothic setting represents the
difference between a regular diatonic semitone and some kind of
smaller semitone-like interval. In the examples I gave, it has a size
between around 15 cents and 27 cents.

This interpretation does leave us with the complication that this
interval will sometimes be closer to 1/12 tone, and sometimes to 1/6
tone. However, the "smallest interval" theme may provide at least some
common meaning.
