CHECK OUT THIS EMAIL SENT TO ART OF NOISE FAN TRIBUTE PAGE.

This page encouraged fans to make their own versions of AON songs, and I
wanted to, when
I can spare cash, to do microtonal variations.

Dear Terence,

Carl Jung probably would have called it syncronicity, but the funny thing
is, is that I went
out a hunting for ideas, and, in particular, samples from a song that I had
suggested to me,
called OPUS 4, by Art Of Noise.

Its funny how this came about, because back in 1992, I played a beautiful
song by a
woman who anybody who has heard of Art Of Noise probably would have also,
and her
name was "Laurie Anderson".

You will probably have heard of her, and her song O Superman, of the world
famous
album BIG SCIENCE, and of course, this was WAY back before sampling was
commercially available, and when it was limited to Fairlights and a
University with a liquid
nitrogen cooled neculear reactor blah, blah, etc, etc....

I played this to my friend, and he cried "OPUS 4", or at least something
that sounded like
it.

Since this time, I though and thought, and thought about variations on just
this one song.

I played it to my grandmother, who immediately recognised its likeness to a
famous
poem she had read to her as a child.

I do not, as yet have acess to the available equipment to do the things that
I want to with
a computer, the limiting factor, is, as nearly always it is, money, not
creative thinking or
time, but cash to purchase this or that....

I can, however, take what information I have, as from this site that I had
suggested to me,
by a guy who I contacted, when I was looking for samples to download, and at
least
store in my hard-disk.

I am glad to have finally found you're site, and glad to have finally found
something that I
can "sink my teeth into", and I feel that this really encapsulates the
spirit of Art of Noise,
and this was cut/paste/splice/copy

Here are some variantions on ART OF NOISE'S, OPUS 4:

Opus four reversed:

Simply a revered in time version of Opus four, and this wasn't too hard to
acheive.

I managed to do this by tweaking a bolt on my friends casette disk player.

I actually enjoyed this almost as much as the origional, and this, in no way
belittles the
esteem that I hold for OPUS 4.

This is primarily the theme in my proposed version on the CD, or trahsed up
album cover
for an AON fan tribute, and this is WAYS OF TAKING THE INFORMATION IN
HERANT AND AS REPRESENTATIVE OF OPUS 4, and INVERTING it.

The second variant does, in fact, involve inverting the information, but in
another way.

Sample depth is, for certain given in Sigma notation, thus:

n
E 2^n * (0, 1)
0

and this Greek "E" surely does describe a sample depth, but what I wanted to
do was
find:

n
E n^2 *(0, 1)
0

which is a sample depth reversed.

A little mental effort actually shows that this gives a sampling system all
right, but with
BLOOMING GREAT HOLES!!!!!!!!!!

There is another means to encrypt:

n
E n^2 * (0, 4, 2.25, 1.77777777777777, 1.5625, 1.44------>1)
0

which is a reverse sampleing system, without hoels, and map it back to 2^n,
and hey
presto, we have two more variants.

For now, as time permist, and I am hungry, I will mention, that there are
two other
variants that a worthy of noteing.

The first is fuzzy sampling, and this, in fact, has a trinary based system,
with:

0, 1, [2^(1/2)]&n, which is the square root of two placed in a superpower
stack, and
this......x^(x^(x^x)))--->converges towards the number 2.

Thus, the square root of two gives analogue and a digital system to be
reckoned, and
thus I checked out a basic stamp chip from an electronics shop, and again,
came short
due to cash.

I have one final arithmetic variant, and this is to map each sucessive
sample's waveform,
and put it to 0--->10, and to take the reciprocal of the waveform's depth,
where 1/0 is
encountered, naturally, make it an arbitaritly large value.

I hav one final variant, and indeed, I wish to put word around about this,
due to the fact
that it involves another obsessive passion that I have with MICROTONAL
MUSIC, and
alternative tuning systems, and this is a version of Opus 4 sample's
manipulated in 19
Equal Tempemrent, time stretched, and up/down sampled.

Naturally, knowing me, I would have done all of this earlier, but as nearly
always, I am
short of cash.

I will, and am, putting word around at a rate of knots about Art of Noise,
and the
essence/spirit of Art of Noise, and grabbing samples, and reinacting the
versions of AON.

I think there should be mre like your's.

Very Sincerely,

From New Zealand,

Sarn Richard Ursell.
