I just performed at a festival last night...also on the fest, but a
couple of weeks earlier, was James Tenney, and I did not get to see him.
It mentioned in the program that he was going to be working with
Partch's instruments, and I have seen his name mentioned in regards to
non 12 tunings...anybody got the scoop on Tenney? Also, there was a
Dutch guitarist on the show, Weik Hijmans, who played a very interesting
piece last nite...it was in 12 eq, but it didn't particularly sound like
12...he was very good....Hstick

James Tenney teaches composition up at York University in Toronto. He has
worked with Partch and Varese amongst others. He works in just intonation
and 12tet, and his compositions are performed through Europe and North
America. His books on tuning and theory are very interesting. His music
incorporates post-Cage practices and just intonation. There are several
cd's out with his compositions, though I'd have to hunt to find the labels.
