CD vs MD

I too can easily hear the difference between CD and MD. I have one of the
latest units (MZR50), an SPDIF cable, and have submitted to blind tests
between CD and direct-from-CD copies.

CDs do not use psychoacoustic masking, and so their sound quality is
measurable in terms of sampling rate and sample size. For all CDs, this is
44.1KHz and 16 bits respectively. There are "20bit" recordings out there,
and most do sound very good, but I doubt this has much to do with anything
"20bit".

Unlike MDs, CDs can be copied forever without generation loss. Sony
deserves the boot in the ass for purposely engineering loss into an
otherwise digital medium.

I have only limited experience with Minidisks. In particular, I have a
Minidisk multitracker, but so far I haven't used it enough to judge its sound
quality. That, however, is changing now.

Anyway, could somebody characterize, as well as words can describe, ATRAC
distortion sounds like?
