It sounds like you're referring to something similar to what I did when I
performed my "relaxed" ET experiments. But I'm not sure what you're
referring to. Did I miss something?

Anyway, when I relaxed 8tET, I got two possible solutions -- a meantone
diatonic scale with an added G#, and a meantone diatonic scale with an added
Ab.

These have lower total dyadic discordance than the half-whole diminished
scale (which seems to be optimized right around 12-tET), which in turn has
much lower total dyadic discordance than 8-tET.

Probably I missed what you meant by generating a "'less tense' thread".
