Hey, lemme stir up some Trubble here . . .

What's the dirt on Partch's homo-(or is it bi-?)sexuality?

Did he prefer to be the donor or the recipient?
or was he ambidextrous?

Harry Partch : A Biography by Bob Gilmore(1998) states
that Partch was gay, but kept it mostly to himself, except
occasionally to shock some acquaintance. Of course, it
would have been better to keep it quiet in those days
(McCarthy et al.). He was apparently quite shy among
men, and had some problems with his own sexuality
stemming from his mother's influences (had him
circumcised at age eight, without his father knowing,
and without Partch knowing what was happening --
a real castration anxiety), possible sterility. Sheds some
light on his "corporeality" vs. abstraction. (But the bio
doesn't go much beyond that, concentrates on the development
of his music). No indication that he had any sexual relationships
with women according to the bio (I'm up to his residence
in Petaluma, early 60s).

Ok. Here it comes.

I expected better from you, Monz. This is way off-topic, and in a public
forum it feels like an invasion of privacy to me, even if the guy *is*
dead. He may not have any living genetic descendents be sure has plenty of
memetic ones.

I don't think Partch's life is off-topic for the
"Alternative Tuning List". BUT . . .

OK, the gods paid me back for it.

My PC crashed right when I was sending that very message,
and it destroyed my Juno account and my ability to use
their service altogether. I'm still trying to figure out
how to fix it, and it's a real pain in the ass [pun intended :) ]
not to be able to use it now.

So, OK, I'll apologize. I was in a randy mood for a minute.

But you're right, I should've sent that message privately
to those who wouldn't be offended.
