David!
Enjoyed your presentation as so much of our work as composers is based on looking at as many
combinations as possible. You lecture was a good model for all and enjoyed what you did with the
chords themselves!

BTW there was a picture of some instruments in a Patagonia catalog a few issues back with some
instruments by a Tara Smith from Moab Utah. Do you know if she is connected with Richard Cooke as
an attempt to get any info from her was met with nothing.

The Mazda Marimba was the project of one of Harry's students at Champaign. When I visited him there in the early summer of 1960, he was rather critical of its fragile nature (made with light bulbs, very thin glass).

Well, if accuracy is the issue, there are a number of Partch's
instruments that developed from work with others, as well as a couple
that came from a project from an industrial design class. There are
segments of Partch working with other craftsmen/assistants in "The
Dreamer That Remains".

Yep, that's one of the ones I was referring to. The funny part is
that the MM had such a characteristic sound (and not only hadn't
broken much but was easy to replace the light bulbs) that while it
only ended up in two works ("And on the Seventh Day Petals Fell in
Petaluma" and "Delusion of the Fury"), it's sound was not only
recognizable but a favorite of many first time Partch listeners.
Going back in time to those old enough to remember, it reminded them
of the old Maxwell House perc (as in percolator) coffee commercial.

Cheers,
Jon
