Kraig, the quote actually says "contains, among much rubbish, valuable
matter on the nature of sound and the theory of composition".

Hence the implication is that while there's a lot of rubbish in the book,
there's also, by contrast, valuable material on the theory of sound.

Quite the opposite of how you summarized it.
