What's more, counterpoint is MUCH "cooler" than harmony, particularly
Western harmony. Counterpoint is LINEAR, it goes back to ancient
musics, melody and applies to NON-WESTERN composition. It can be
particularly applicable to xenharmonic composition... It's not as
"definitionally" tied up with Western-type music as tradition harmony
"rules" (even though the great... even good... composers always
broke those). Counterpoint takes in just about everything, whereas
harmony, particularly WESTERN harmony is just a little slice of the
pie charts!
