Dear Jon
thanks for the thanks
I first heard John Fahey in a free concert on Hampstead Heath,London
(alongside the Soft Machine and Procol Harum), in 1969 having heard records
before that.
His understanding of blues coupled with an evocative, almost
ancient-civilisation sense
about some of his work made his approach quite unique for me.
I'd recommend the bottleneck composition "The Death Of The Clayton Peacock"
(I think on "The
Transfiguration Of Blind Joe Death" album) as a personal favourite. He was
an American original.
Thanks also to Dan Stearns for acknowledgement of the news.
Peace to Mr Fahey and his extraordinary muses.
Lawrence
