Hi John,

Had a thought,

It is easy to add new entries to the "Work in progress" tree - just
add one new line to the tree.txt file for each one.

So I'll do that until the program is written.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robertwalker/tree/tree.htm

Of course, won't happen immediately, but will next time it
is updated.

In your new entry to the database, I see that you put
adaptive_tuning.txt into faq/adaptive/adaptive_tuning.txt

So, I'll assume for now that you want it in a top level folder
called adaptive.

This folder name would need to go into the place where you wrote

can_this_have_sub_folders

If instead you want it inside another folder,
add a new entry to the database:

New folder | adaptive | (leave url blank, and no more fields required.)

I'll then redo the work in progress tree accordingly.

...................................................

There's no need to move the original file when you change its location
in the tree.

The idea of having a folder structure in the faq folder that mirrors the
tree is a good one, however I suggest that we don't make it something one
has to keep to strictly.

You could put all your faq entries into
faq/JdL intead if you prefer.

My program will look at the first field to decide which folder to put
your entry into in the tree.

It will look at the url field to find out what link to use for it,
which can be anywhere on the WWW.

This way, if one wants to re-arrange the tree structure, one can do it just
by changing the database (I'll probably add a treeview control to the program
to make this easy to do).

One doesn't need to do anything about the locations of the originals for
all the entries.

...........................

It's the demo on-site tree that takes time to update by hand.

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robertwalker/site_ex/tree.htm

I'll leave updating that until the program is ready.

There'll also be a demo on-site ascii faq which gets refreshed
each time the on-site tree is.

So we'll soon be able to have a really clear idea of how it will
work, and see if there are any more bugs to fix in the method,
and whether it is what we need for the FAQ.

(But, I haven't done any programming today, just been thinking about
how to do it. That's the best way of course, to do lots of planning first
before you get down to the programming).
