Your "Harmonica" Web Pages

Hi Pat,

I just found out about your web pages from a recent Usenet post. Great job!
I liked the example WAV files at:

http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~patm/tunings.html

I was particularly surprised at how rough this one sounded:

Holes 3, 4 and 5 draw in Just Intonation, with 5 draw tempered
http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~patm/5ji345.wav

Maybe the roughness is due in part to the unique timbre of harmonicas.
Experiments I've done in the past had produced smoother 5-limit results.
(I'm considering "5 draw tempered" to be close enough to "5-limit".) For
example, my own "Dominant 7th" web page had some similar sound examples, but
in MIDI format. It's at:

http://www.pacificnet.net/~nowitzky/justint/dom7.htm

Until now, I thought one of my 5-limit tunings was better than the 7-limit.
I may have to rethink that. Anyway, thanks for making your info available
on the net. Sincerely,

P.S.: I notice you're also a subscriber to tuning@onelist.com - what a
coinkidink! (Well, maybe it's not that much of a coincidence; after all, I
was searching Usenet for posts on "just intonation"...)

Hi Pat,

In my continued obsession with the "dominant seventh" chord, I just updated
a web page of mine to point to a web page of yours - see the bottom of:

http://www.pacificnet.net/~nowitzky/justint/dom7.htm

At 11:44 PM 3/22/99, you wrote:

You can search DejaNews to see what they're saying. Try the following URL:

http://www.dejanews.com/dnquery.xp?ST=PS&QRY=missin+%22just+intonation%22

(If your email reader broke the URL up, you may have to copy-and-paste it in
pieces to get it to work.)

I believe it was your "99/01/31" post I stumbled across. (Boy, those dates
are gonna look real funny come Y2K!)

Thanks again for your tuning examples! Sincerely,
