Short excerpt from a review of the Cage/Feldman concerts in the Times
today by Anthony Tommasini:

"A telling and touching story of their early relationship [Cage &
Feldman], recounted in a preconcert talk on Friday, concerned Cage's
reaction to an early Feldman work for string quartet. Feldman had
shown it to Milton Babbitt, who was baffled by it. When Cage
examined the work, he asked the young man how he had composed it.
Feldman said, "I don't know." "Isn't that wonderful!" Cage
exclaimed, squealing like a monkey, as Feldman later recalled..."
