Just fer the record, I also believe that I find 11:8 more
'settled' than 11:9. I think this is in part a natural
'extra concordance' of otonal structures that is not
modeled by the simple product.

Regarding 9:10 melodically more consonant than 7:5 and
visca-versa for the harmonic consonance, I would tnd
to say that ignoring the difference between melody
and harmony doesn't match with my perceptions. If
you look statistically at most musics, stepwise motion
across time (melodic) is most prevalent. The most
prevalent motion in space (harmony) are decidedly NOT
seconds but thirds fourths and fifths. The one music
I've heard with a harmonic basis and a great emphasis
on non-suspension usage of harmony in seconds is the
'Mysterious Voices of the Balkans' recordings.

Absolutely true -- which is why I asked Georg Hajdu to clarify his
statement . .
