Are there any earlier sources for rectangular lattices than Ellis (1874) or
Hostinsky (1879)?

Is there an earlier source for triangular lattices than Tanaka (1890)?

BTW, for Joe Monzo, Tanaka uses the phrase 'Periodenparallelogram' to
describe how his central unit of 3x5 tone space is nearly repeated at
kleisma and skhisma intervals. Periodicity, then, seems to be the best
established term.

I remember Euler even having 3 d lattices!
