Looking for a synth

Good day to everyone.

I am a microtonal composer looking for a synthesizer, and I can
think of no better place to ask for reccomendations than here. My
budget is such that the instrument has to be under $1000 (used is
fine), in fact the cheaper the better. I'm not really interested in
preset-oriented keyboards; I love doing _extensive_ sound design.
It would be neccessary for me to be able to program any tunings I
want, and move among them flexibly... I don't need an arpeggiatior,
sequencer, dsp, etc. - if the price is right I don't even mind
something from 1982 or something without midi.

Someone reccomended the yamaha tx81z, someone else the dx7ii, but I
haven't heard either. I do like their prices though.

Perhaps I should even consider building an analog modular synth
myself - any success stories out there?

Later,
Crow

Hello Crow!

Everybody is always recommending this page, but it is indeed a good
one:

You'll find everything you ever wanted to know and were not afraid to
ask there...

There are many fans of the TX81Z on this list and although it is a
"classic" item, it is indeed flexible. You can also easily tune it
to about any conceivable scale with the SCALA scale program. If you
hang around this list a bit you will find out more about this! Of
course you can also easily find a patch editor for it...

It's easy to find used TX81Z's. Generally a couple appear on this
list every few months or so... A quick Internet search will also do
the trick... That's what I did.
