Yamaha VL-7 or TG-77

I'm considering the possibility of picking up either or both of a VL-7
or a TG-77 for future xenharmonic work. If any of you have any leads on
such a thing, I'd love to hear about it. Thanks!

I'm only familiar with FM synthesis and not physical modelling which
is what the VL-7 can do. If you are looking for an FM synthesizer then
you might seriously consider Yamaha's new FSR1. There has been a very
favourable response about it on the DX-7 mailing list, "best FM synth
ever".
It's also a rack type like the TG-77, which is not particularly new.
I don't know the microtuning capabilities of the FSR1 however, anyone?

I meant FS1R not FSR1.

I'm interested in pursuing both: physical modelling for (hopefully)
realistic simulations of "real" instruments, and FM for fantasy sounds -
sounds not intended to sound like anything in particular.

One thing that the TG-77 can do that I'd like to explore is
resonant-filter effects applied to FM primitives. Do you know of the FS1R
has resonant filters?

Yes, it has resonant filters and formant filters. It would
come out early this year so I don't know if it's available yet.

Boy, I really miss my old TG-77. What a great axe.

I'm not familiar with the newer Yamaha stuff, but
my TG-77 gave me any tuning I wanted, and with
PC-based editors, I could do anything with it
(including storing *tons* more tunings!). I'd
buy another one in a minute if I had the _dinero_.

Good perspective there. Thanks.

Aha. That could be interesting. Thanks for the tip!
