The MELA Foundation Board invites you to meet the artists on the
occasion of a special book signing to celebrate the publication
and U.S. release of Marian Zazeela Drawings. This catalog of
Zazeela's recent exhibition at Kunst im Regenbogenstadl,
Polling, Bavaria is the first comprehensive study of her drawings.
Please join us at the MELA Dream House, 275 Church Street,
3rd floor, on Saturday, December 9, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
Marian Zazeela and La Monte Young will be present, and Marian will
sign catalogs and answer questions about her work. Signed copies of
the catalog will be on sale for this event only at a special price of
$36.00, tax included.

The hardcover book features 71 full-color reproductions of Zazeela's
drawings spanning 1962 through 1991, with her written analysis.
It includes essays on her work by Henry Flynt and Uli Schaegger,
as well as photographs, biographical documentation and inventory o
f the exhibition. Among the reproductions are many of the original
drawings for her posters, flyers and record covers of La Monte Young's
music, early abstract calligraphy, and works from her Portraits
series, and Glyphs series. The catalog cover was printed with
characteristic black-on-black calligraphy and drawing, in the
style of Zazeela's many graphite-on-black works. Published in
Germany in May 2000, the book is available in both German/English a
nd French/English editions.

The Dream House will be open during normal hours this Saturday,
December 9. If you haven't yet come to the newly refurbished Dream
House, this special event is a great opportunity to also experience
the lights and sounds that have entranced visitors for the last seven
years.
