Performance licensing for on-line music (ASCAP etc.)

I seem to be encountering problems from the performing rights societies
for giving a free mp3 download service for my own compositions.
I have had emails today from site visitors saying that mp3's of
LucyTuned Lullabies are no longer available from our site.
I checked the file listings and found that all the mp3's had been
deleted.
I have yet to get a response from my ISP, yet assume that ASCAP or one
of the other performing rights societies have breathed on the service
provider.
Apparently licenses are available for about $240 + per year.
Does anyone else have knowledge or experience of this new way of doing
things?

There was an article on Slashdot about it. You shouldn't have to pay to
host your own music, but some ISPs are running scripts that delete all MP3
files. If your agreement with your ISP doesn't say that MP3s are
forbidden, and you aren't above quota, they should put them back.
