yep
it's womderful to have somebody remembering that i am on the list

i=BUYO-BUYO-IGOR am struggling to find a way to
get rid of the idea of scales -- i mean root -- want to keep it floatin
plannin to learn Java to do those algo-comp things via Csound's sco
but not skilled enough in Java nor Csound yet..

so..
at this moment
doing live(or studio) improvisation thang
by puttin micro-tuned samples in samplers

came into the idea to do it(impro) browser oriented
and built
http://mybrowser.ismad.com
(some are micro some are not)

also have
http://come.to/my-princess
http://kiss.to/my-head
to do collaborations...but not becoming anything yet

plannin to get deeply into Java'n'Csound this winter
but before that
have to turn UNIX oriented on my G3-Macintosh
since OSX(Darwin) is almost FreeBSD
wondering if choosing Linux(VineLinux4PPC) may be better to do
Micro-SAOL thangs

anybody doing micro on SAOL?

I highly recommend Michael Gogins' "Silence" for combined Java - CSound. As
far as I know, though it only runs on Windows. Check out

Yeah, I think you're better off with Linux than any other UNIX on a Mac. But
if you can do it, dual-boot Linux and the native Mac OS. There is a
*boatload* of good music software that *only* runs on a Mac ... so much that
I've considered getting a G4 cube if the price is right. :-)

> anybody doing micro on SAOL?

I am moving in that direction. I'm using "sfront" on Windows, available from

http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~lazzaro/sa/index.html. The reference
implementation of "sfront" is in Linux, another reason for going with Linux
on the Mac.

A brief comparison of CSound and SAOL/SASL:

1. There are more existing "instruments" and better GUI wrappers for CSound
than for SAOL/SASL.

2. SAOL's C-like code is a lot easier to read than CSound's pseudo-assembly
style code.

3. MIDI capabilities are about equal; SAOL was designed with General MIDI in
mind, whereas MIDI was tacked on to CSound fairly late in the game. If
you're doing microtonality with MIDI pitch bends and SAOL, I have some code
that will work; I posted it to the list file server some time ago but I will
send it to you privately if you wish.

For my purposes, SAOL is fine; I don't need pre-defined instruments or GUI
wrappers. I can read CSound code and hand-translate it into SAOL if someone
has done something I want to duplicate. So my plan is to do everything I
possibly can in SAOL, along with some specialized analysis tools and editors
(SNDAN, CDP and CoolEdit).

Ah yeah!
that one is one of "some day i might try" thing
oh but only 4 windows?

recently found

jMusic - Size: 527K - Open Source-win&mac
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/jMusic/?nl44
Music Composition in Java

&

JDSP - Size: 334K - Freeware-mac
http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/JDSP/?nl44
Audio signal processing application

maybe will be something 4 Micro@Java experiments?

it took me two days to have OS8.6&RedHat running on my dad's iMac
am beginning to love the windowmaker's GUI and now planning to
get rid of OSX from my iBook and install Linux on this mochine too

wow
i'll need a little more experience to start asking you things
but
when that day comes
please let me ask you for suggestions

hey!
this was something
that i wanted someone to teach me of
thanx so much!

didn't know that

well
at this moment
i do not even know how to complie the source things on linux
so maybe a bit later

am using
Real-Time-Tuner

to do Micro-MIDI things
but
frankly
am getting into Csound and SAOL
because "not via MIDI but Hz oriented" things might be handled easier
....and expecting Java(spitting out txt things) to work as an algo-comp tool

> I can read CSound code and hand-translate it into SAOL

sounds great

what is the strongest point of SAOL
comparing to Csound?
