Thanks to Carl Lumma, I am finally able to view Java applets using Internet
Explorer. I had to go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security -> Custom
Level -> Microsoft VM -> Java Permissions and check "Low Security".

It's always a permissions problem, isn't it?
