On Thursday, November 2, in a special evening of cross-cultural
improvisation, Warren Senders brings his emotive Indian vocal
stylings to the exploratory East-West synthesis of Natraj. The music
begins at 9:00 PM, at Ryles, 212 Hampshire St., Inman Square,
Cambridge, MA. Tickets are $10. Ages 18 and over are welcome. For

Warren Senders is recognized as the world's foremost non-Indian
performer of Hindustani vocal music. His khyal-style concerts in
India, Europe, and North America have been widely acclaimed in the
press. The Delhi News attested to his "technical perfection," while
the Poona Digest called him "brilliant... in a totally Indian
manner." Senders is also a composer, and this performance at Ryles
will feature his works, along with originals by Scarff and other
Natraj members -- and arrangements of several traditional Indian
songs
in languages like Urdu, Hindi, and Pushto.

Natraj features the raga-influenced soprano saxophone of Phil Scarff;
the emotive inflections of violist Mat Maneri; the warm, nimble
solidity of bassist Michael Rivard; the tabla and multipercussion
mastery of Jerry Leake; and high-energy groove of drummer Bertram
Lehmann. The meeting of Warren Senders and Natraj will be an
exciting evening of powerful rhythms, gripping melodies, and virtuoso
pan-cultural improvis
